The Google Play Music service is shutting down in September. Users will have until December to back up music content.
Play Music will be discontinued in New Zealand and Australia next September, but users around the world will have until October.
You need to transfer the song file to the YouTube Music app for backup. According to Google, mail has been sent to all users of Play Music. Instructions have been given in the mail on how to transfer the file.
Google Music has a huge collection of 60 million songs. To transfer files, you first need to download the YouTube Music app. Click on the profile picture on the right to go to Settings. Then select the Transfer from Google Play Music option. Google will notify you when the transfer is done.
Google Play Music users will be able to transfer playlists, artists, albums, songs, purchased content, recommendations and uploads. If you buy a new device running Android 10, users will get YouTube music pre-installed instead of Play Music.
